As we wind down to the end of 2015 and prepare to turn the calendar over to 2016, now is the time we all tend to make those New Year’s resolutions that most of us, in all honesty, won't live up to. Here are a few achievable, and easy, changes we can all make to ensure 2016 is a successful and healthy year full of promise and prosperity. Here are four of our favorite New Year’s Resolutions that we’d love to pass on to you.
Invest in your health
Feeling like you may have overindulged just a bit too much over the holiday season? Welcome to the club. Take the time in the new year to work on a new, fit and healthy you. Take a close look at your eating habits over the last year and see what changes could be made to benefit your health. It’s time to stop eating at the local gas station and keep driving past the drive-through. Focus on what you can do to change your diet to improve your health and work toward purging those nasty habits that we all know aren’t good for our diets.
The New Year is the perfect time to start a fitness routine that will satisfy your overall health goals. Maybe it’s time to lose a few pounds or work on that ideal physique you’ve always wanted. Take the time to investigate a diet and exercise program that works for you and will help you be proactive in protecting your health in the years to come. Remember, it’s always a good idea to consult your physician before undertaking any physical exercise or drastic changes to your diet.
Organize your finances
While it may be tempting to just push your 2015 finances to the back of the closet and never revisit them again, especially if it’s been a tough year, now is the perfect time to open that box of receipts and make a smart plan for the New Year.
Start by creating a list of expenditures and earnings for the previous year and set some attainable goals for 2016. Create a budget that will include investments and savings so that you have an accurate overview of where you’ll be by this time next year. It may be prime time to consolidate debt, hire an accountant or just take stock of where your money is being spent and curb your spending habits. Now is the perfect time to create a budget for the year and to start saving for the next vacation, vehicle, investment or your dream Rockport retreat property.
Discover a new hobby or talent.
Take the time to indulge in a bit of “me time” by finding something to occupy the hours when you aren’t working, taking care of the household or taking care of the kids. Find a hobby that speaks to you and helps to satisfy your desires that will, in turn, give you a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. This year may be the perfect time to learn how to paint, take up sailing, start fishing or learn to play an instrument or discover wildlife photography.
The entire Rockport and Fulton area is ideal for any of the hobbies we've just mentioned and there are plenty of clubs and organizations in our city that are perfect for helping you discover a new pastime. Whether you choose a hobby on your own, with a partner or want some way to meet like-minded people; there are plenty of new things to discover that are sure to satisfy that inner creative urge or that way to decompress after longs days of work.
Organize your home
As the saying goes, “out with the old and in with the new” and that applies to all the junk and clutter you’ve collected over the past year. Set the New Year up right by going through the house and decluttering and discarding all the knick-knacks and odds and ends that have piled up or are just taking up space. For clothing and household items that still have some life in them, consider donating to a local charity or shelter to help those in need. Cleaning out the junk is not only cathartic, it also provides a bit of exercise and creates space to add new clutter throughout the coming year! Top tip for decluttering a clothes closet: take all the hanging clothes and turn the hangers around so they are all facing outward. When you replace the article of clothing after wearing it, hang the clothing with the hanger facing the opposite way. By the time summer comes around, all of those hangers that are still facing outward are the clothes you haven’t worn and are clothes that can be donated!
As the New Year rolls in and the old year fades off into the distance, we could all use just a little bit of time to reflect on the past and to look forward to the year ahead. We at Rockport Properties wish you and your loved ones a healthy, successful and fun New Year and we thank you for making us your top real estate firm in Rockport, Key Allegro and the Coastal Bend area. Happy New Year!
